Train: the city’s central train station handles rail services either departing or leaving Luxembourg. The national railway operates fast and frequently-scheduled train services throughout the country and if you’re interested in seeing some of the countryside, this can be a good option. Within the city, one of the best trains is the ‘Petrusse Express’ a small tourist train that runs on rubber wheels. Twice each hour, the service departs from the Place de la Constitution, taking visitors on a relaxing tour around the city’s historic parts. A bus tour that includes visits to the cathedral, the Grand Duke’s palace, the remains of the city’s original fortress and other historical sites is offered every day. Some of the important attractions located on the outskirts of the city are also visited on the tour, making it possible to see some of the countryside even if you’re a bit short on time. These two-hour tours run from March to October and depart from the Place de la Constitution daily at 14:15. Taxi: taxis are a convenient means for getting around the city. You’ll most likely have to go to one of the many taxi stands rather than trying to hail one in the street. It’s also possible to call ahead to request taxi service. An option known as the Nightrider bus service is available in the evenings: this is a semi-private taxi service operating on Fridays and Saturdays from 19:00-04:00 throughout Luxembourg City. It’s a handy and reasonably-priced option for getting to and from your weekend evening entertainment. |
