Introduction to Bhamdoun, Lebanon
Tucked into the side of a great hill in central Lebanon, the town of Bhamdoun lies on the road leading to Damascus, southeast of the country's largest and liveliest city, Beirut.

It is comprised of two separate villages, Bhamdoun-el-mhatta and Bhamdoun-el-day'aa, and was historically a famous summer resort before it faced destruction during the Lebanese Civil War.

Most Bhamdoun hotels, restaurants and entertainment centres have since been rebuilt, however, and the town is steadily regaining its touristic appeal.

Many who travel to the Persian Gulf find their way to this pretty, colourful summer hideaway to spend time strolling along the cafe-filled streets and perusing jewellery shops and outdoor markets.

Predominately Orthodox Christian, the town has many beautiful churches as well as a scattering of mosques and one of the finest synagogues in the country, built in 1910.

For the last decade, the vineyard at Chateau Belle-Vue has been producing fine wines that are exported around the world.

As Bhamdoun reclaims its charm, it is sure to become one of the must-see holiday spots in the Gulf region.
