Introduction to Beit Mery, Lebanon
The picturesque Lebanese town of Beit Mery’s fame as the perfect visitor destination goes back over 2,000 years to Phoenician and Roman days. Dignitaries and the wealthy of both colonial empires found the town’s lovely setting, spectacular views and cool climate as attractive as do today’s tourists. Just 16kms from Beirut, the town overlooks the vast city and its Mediterranean coastline. At the southern tip of the town are Phoenician and Roman temples, one of which has an 18th century Christian church and monastery built over part of its foundations.
