Introduction to Beirut - Raouche
Even by Beirut's high standards, Raouche is a charming and historical neighbourhood and a major tourism draw. The iconic Pigeon Rocks, actually two huge formations that jut out of the Mediterranean Sea, are undoubtedly the most famous sites in this quarter but there is plenty more to see besides. Raouche hotels are plentiful and tend to be at the higher end of the price scale as this is an upmarket residential area where property prices have gone through the roof in recent years. Located at Beirut's westernmost tip, Raouche offers wonderful walks along its cliff-side promenade where there are a wealth of cafes and restaurants from which to enjoy the views. Evidence of some of the oldest human civilisation in the area has been found on the shoreline here. Visitors can head to AUB Archaeological Museum for a closer look at Raouche's ancient past or to Janine Rubeiz Gallery for contemporary art.Visit our Beirut Travel Guide
