Introduction to Beirut - Minet El Hosn
Long since the disruption that took place in this waterfront area of northern Beirut in 1975 during the civil war in Lebanon, Minet El Hosn is today a peaceful and picturesque quarter with plenty to offer visitors. Many of the Minet El Hosn hotels that were partially destroyed during the fighting are still around today under the same name and they're very much open for business as usual. If restaurants and bars are on the agenda, then this quarter delivers. Food-wise there are plenty of excellent Lebanese eateries along with Japanese and even Argentinean eateries, meaning you'll never have to eat the same meal twice. Many of the bars and clubs can be found in the international hotels located in Minet El Hosn but there are also plenty of other options. Attractions in the area include the Lebanese Parliament, constructed in 1933, and the downtown Martyrs Square with its memorial to the nationalists who lost their lives at the hands of the Ottomans in WWI.Visit our Beirut Travel Guide
