Introduction to Beirut - Ain El Mreisse
One of the many districts of Beirut that sits on the Mediterranean Sea waterfront, Ain El Mreisse is a colourful corner of this vibrant capital, featuring open-air chess boards, brightly painted public benches and a charm of its own that exudes everything that has given the Lebanese capital its increasingly eclectic reputation. As with many parts of this sun-bleached city, rundown areas sit side-by-side with international five-star Ain El Mreisse hotels. Budget travellers are catered for to a lesser extent but inexpensive places to stay do exist here. For a real taste of Beirut, Ain El Marisse does not disappoint. There are a number of superb bars, restaurants and cafes, many of which sit on the waterfront Corniche and specialise in traditional Lebanese fare and locally caught seafood. The Corniche is the place to watch the sunset or rollerblade to the backdrop of the sea. Additionally, the Souffleur Museum with its interesting antique collection is worth a visit.
