Introduction to Jurmala, Latvia
Jurmala is Latvia's most popular beach front region, and consists of several amazing beaches for tourists to bask in the sunshine. Although the water is quite cold, even in summer, sun-bathing is a common pastime during the summer months, so the area is usually quite busy with predominantly Latvian, Russian, Swedish and European travellers. Hotels in Jurmala are located generally along the beach front or the esplanades running along the beaches. Resorts are the most common style of the properties, but villas and rental housing are also used by vacationers. The district contains several beautiful beaches, including Majori and Bulduri, and is commonly referred to as 'Latvia's French Riviera'. The region can be easily reached via the Riga-Jurmala highway, but it is recommended that the buildings are reserved in advance, as the summer months usually bring thousands of sun-seeking travellers.
