Vientiane Travel Guide - Things To Do
Canœeing/Kayaking: can be enjoyed on the Mekong or Nam Xong Rivers and visitors will find vessels for hire at the riverside. Guides or assistance are not required and visitors are permitted to explore the area at their leisure. Life jackets are generally supplied but participants should be reasonably proficient swimmers.
Tubing: local companies will drive you a couple of kilometres out of town up the Nam Xong River and drop you and friends off at a strategic point from where you can pitch your inflated car inner tube on the water and hence enjoy the relaxing activity that is drifting slowly back to the town with the river’s current. Meet new friends on the water and stop at various spots for snacks or beverages.
Biking along the Mekong: rent a bicycle in the city and head down to the river following the road to Thadeua. Once you get down on the river you follow it via Bo O village and Hat Dong Keo village before eventually hitting the main road that brings you back to the city. The entire trip can be done in about three to four hours, depending on how many stops you make and passes some fantastic scenery along the way.
Golf: a small, 9-hole golf course is located off route 13 south close to the Kaysone Memorial Museum and offers all the amenities of a professional facility including equipment hire, caddies and a club house with restaurant.
