Located in the Mekong Valley, south of both Luang Prabang and Vang Vieng, Vientiane is the capital city of the Southeast Asian country Laos. As capitals go, it’s a small city with a population estimated at less than half a million and little evidence of the hustle and bustle that you might find in Bangkok or Ho Chi Minh City in the neighbouring countries of Thailand and Vietnam.
