Down at the river front, you’ll find a number of bars where you can meet likeminded travellers and enjoy a few bottles of Beer Lao (the national brew) or a glass or two of Lao-Lao (potent rice whisky) while the Xiang Thong road is also home to places to sit and chill out of an evening. If you part of the older, package tourist generation, then Xiang Thong has establishments where you can enjoy a good glass of wine and the company of your peers.
Nightclubs are non-existent in Luang Prabang, although there are a couple of establishments where the locals get together to dance but they close early and certainly won’t get you wanting to don your dancing shoes and try your best disco moves. An unofficial curfew is in place which means most establishments are closed by midnight although the odd place such as the backpacker-friendly Hive Bar, stays open till 01:00 or 02:00.
