Introduction to Vang Vieng, Laos
Vang Vieng is regarded as the backpackers heart of Laos, on account of the hotels in Vang Vieng and other businesses accommodating primarily for the international backpackers that frequent the town. Most Vang Vieng hotels are simple guesthouses offering a comfortable yet simple place to rest when tourists are not exploring the region. However, some hotels in Vang Vieng provide high quality amenities and services for guests, but are usually more expensive. In the area, there are many attractions that captivate tourists on a daily basis. The most common activities in Vang Vieng is hiking the limestone cliffs, cave and cavern exploration, inner-tubing down the river (seasonal) and kayaking. There is a small market about five kilometers north of Vang Vieng that is worth visiting, but be wary of the food stalls selling bat, monkey and squirrel meat. The town itself is quite intriguing. It’s packed with bars, restaurants, internet shops and lodgings to meet the demands of tourists.
