Introduction to Luang Prabang, Laos
Luang Prabang is the old capital city of Laos and the historical home of the royal family. The city, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is known for its stunning and beautiful temples. The small size of city allows for easy exploration on foot. The main temple is Wat Xieng Thong, but there are plenty of other temples to explore along the city's main thoroughfare, Sisavangvong Road. The two main landmarks of the city are the former royal palace, Haw Kham, and Phou Si hill. From the top of Phou Si hill, visitors will have the best views of the city, which are well worth the arduous climb. Luang Prabang is known for its night market, which takes place every night along Sisavangvong Road. The city sits between two rivers, the Mekong and the Nam Khan. A popular activity is to take one of the long-tail boats along the Mekong River to see the Pak Ou Caves, which are filled with thousands of Buddha relics. Luang Prabang hotels are mostly small and clustered around the northern side of the city, with many offering a charming French colonial flavour.Visit our Luang Prabang Travel Guide
