Introduction to Champasak - Khong Island
Laos is a beautiful country filled with stunning natural scenery, incredible French colonial architecture and friendly people, and makes for a fantastic Southeast Asian holiday. The southern part of the country is less visited than the north but has much to offer. Here, visitors can find amazing waterfalls, impressive temples and incredible Khmer ruins. Champasak Province is perhaps the most beautiful in the south and where Si Phan Don (Four Thousand Islands) can be found. These islands are located at the very southern tip of Laos, within the Mekong River, with Khong Island the largest of the bunch. Khong contains the most infrastructure including plenty of Khong Island hotels. The Khone Phapheng Falls is the biggest draw to this part of Champasak and its 21 metres makes it the largest waterfall in all of Southeast Asia. The waters here are home to the endangered freshwater fish known as the plabuck.
