By air: Queen Alia International airport, 20 miles south of Amman, is connected to cities throughout the Middle East, Europe and East Asia with a small number of connections to North America.
The national carrier Royal Jordanian Airlines is based here and operates the most flights out of the airport, while other regional airlines like Gulf Air, Kuwait Airways and Qatar Airways run regular flights.
By road: land crossings into Jordan are numerous but mostly depend on the political situation in what is one of the most volatile regions of the world. In theory, travellers can reach Amman across the borders with Israel, Palestine, Syria, Iraq, Saudi Arabia and Egypt by hiring a taxi or car to drive to the relevant border crossing before catching another vehicle on the other side.
Visas are not usually a big problem as most Jordanian entry points can issue the necessary stamp onsite. From Egypt, a ferry must first be taken across the Red Sea to Aqaba and then a four-hour drive north to Amman.
