Introduction to Dead Sea - Beach
The Dead Sea is an inland saltwater lake that sits on the border between Israel and Jordan. The lake's waters have attracted health and wellness tourists for millennia and scientists today have found that its magnesium and sodium content are genuinely beneficial to health. The water is so salty that it is possible to float without any effort and even read a newspaper while soaking. Some tourists cake their skin with the contents of lakeside mud pools on the beaches here, or even bathe in them, as the mud is believed to stop skin ageing. Jordan is located on the eastern shore of the lake. Most of the Dead Sea Beach hotels are clustered around the north end. The sea is around 45kms from Queen Alia International Airport and 60kms from Amman. Bethany Beyond the Jordan, an easy daytrip away, is a site on the banks of the River Jordan where Jesus is believed to have been baptised. Ancient ruins, well-preserved 1,700-year-old mosaics and John the Baptist's cave give visitors an insight into religious history.
