By train: most visitors from Tokyo take one of the many different rail services for the short journey. Yokohama can be reached in 25 minutes by taking one of the fast trains. Japan's efficient rail network makes travelling around the country a good option and there are high-speed bullet trains linking all of the main cities. Slower trains are also available and considerably cheaper; however, they don't always run direct and involve transfers.
By bus: long-distance buses are a good choice for those who want to save money. Several private companies offer a choice of routes including the JR Bus Group, and buses are generally comfortable and efficient. There are plenty departures and arrivals both day and night, serving all of the major cities in Japan.
