Visa

Visa Information for Japan
Several other countries including nationals from the USA can stay for up to 90 days. Entry may be refused if you do not have visible means of support for your stay, onward or return tickets, or other documents for your next destination. All visitors require a passport valid for the duration of the stay.
Tourists, obviously, cannot work in Japan without the proper permits – including teaching English. No extensions of stay on tourist visas are permitted, which means tourists have to leave after 90 days. Those going to Japan to work and those who would like to stay longer than 90 days should apply for a visa before entering Japan. Foreign visitors must, at all times, carry their passports or alien registration cards with them. Passports are also shown at check-in of all hotels in Japan.
