Introduction to Tokyo - East Tokyo
Separated by the rest of the city by the Arakawa River, East Tokyo is a quiet suburb just outside of the vibrant city centre. It is a great place to use as a base for touring around this massive city. It is home to Nishiarai Daishi, one of the 'Three Great Temples' of Japan's Kanto region and one of the main attractions here. The Museum of Contemporary Art can also be found here and is home to many famous paintings including Andy Warhol's Marilyn Monroe. Another big attraction here is the Kasai Rinkai Park, whose 117-metre high Ferris wheel offers stunning views of Tokyo Bay, Disneyland and Mount Fuji. The Shibamata area appeals to shopaholics as it houses a great shopping street which is great for avoiding the crowds in the bustling city centre.
