Introduction to Takayama - Takayama Station
Takayama is situated in Gifu Prefecture in Japan. The city offers a wide range of great attractions for visitors and the area around Takayama Station is an ideal place to stay as there are excellent links to the city and Gifu's main attractions. There is also a good selection of Takayama Station hotels, perfect for those with an early train to catch. Takayama has a beautifully preserved old town with buildings dating from 1600 to 1870. A lot of the old houses in the old town are now museums. They have many different handicrafts on display, and visitors can see how people used to live in Japan during the 17th through 19th centuries. The area also has many old sake breweries which can be visited, some of which are still in use today. There is also an art gallery in the old town and two morning markets selling arts and crafts as well as farm produce.
