Introduction to Shiga, Japan
Shiga is in the very centre of Japan and a popular resort for visitors in both summer and winter. Travellers from all corners of the world visit this county, as it provides a pleasant nature-based alternative to nearby Kyoto. Often the two areas are combined on a travel itinerary. The region is easily reached on the Bullet Train from either Tokyo or Osaka. The biggest lake in Japan, Biwa-ko, is in Shiga so apart from the winter skiing in the Suzuka Mountains, many visitors come in summer to enjoy the lakeside attractions and recreation activities.
