Introduction to Sapporo, Japan
Sapporo, Japan’s ice capital, is the largest city in Hokkaido. Sapporo itself is a spectacularly beautiful city, but it is most famous for the world renowned Snow Festival held each February. Visitors are welcomed to the city during this time by amazing snow sculptures, artistically designed with intricate features. It is recommended that travel to Sapporo for the Snow Festival be organised in advance, including the purchase of air or rail tickets, and booking hotels in Sapporo. Although there is an abundance of hotels in Sapporo, reservations should be made prior to the month of February. Nevertheless, there is much more to Sapporo than just the Snow Festival. The city was host of the 1972 Winter Olympic Games, with remaining sites still on display for visitors. Other attractions in the city include the Sapporo Brewery, the Sapporo Clock Tower, the Shiroi Kiobito Chocolate Park, Hokkaido’s Historical Village, and the entertainment strip at Susukino. Most hotels in Sapporo offer tours and suggestions for their guests.
