Introduction to Sapporo - Nakajima Park
Right in the heart of downtown Sapporo is Nakajima Park, a huge oasis of greenery and water in the midst of one of Japan's largest cities. The Kamokamo River runs through the park, giving a home to ducks, carp and other wildlife, and creating a huge lake used by boaters in the summer and skiers in the winter. Inside Nakajima Park visitors can watch a performance at the Sapporo Concert Hall Kitara, a stunning piece of architecture that hosts gala events in the summer months. The Hokkaido Museum of Literature is also located within the park. Whenever the weather is warm, expect to find a festival, sporting event or special fair happening in the park. While there are no amenities or hotels in Nakajima Park, visitors can find accommodation, restaurants and shopping centres just outside the boundaries in downtown Sapporo.
