Introduction to Osaka, Japan
Osaka hit the headlines when the Great Hanshin earthquake flattened whole sections of the city in 1995. Remarkably, the city has totally recovered from this devastation. In fact, many believe that the re-construction has revived and revitalised the city. Many new and stunning buildings are now gracing the city's landscape. The central landmark is Osaka Castle, flanked by skyscrapers. There are some fantastic museums. Seek out the Science Museum, the Japan Mint, the Maritime Museum and the Open Air Museum, just to mention a few. Children and adults alike will enjoy a day out at the Aquarium or Universal Studios Japan. The Sumiyoshi Shrine is a must-visit, being one of the oldest Shinto shrines in Japan. For a truly Japanese experience, head to the Kyocera Dome to catch a baseball game of the famous Hanshin Tigers. There is nothing like thousands of Japanese fans cheering in unison! Osaka hotels are scattered around the city, with clusters around Nanba and Umeda railway stations.Visit our Osaka Travel Guide
