Niigata is a modern city on the north-west coast of Japan’s main island, Honshu. The city is a regional transport interchange with a ferry port and a mainline rail station. Niigata Station is in the central Bandai precinct of the city and is the location of a number of Niigata hotels. The station is close to the bank of the River Shinano. The Sea of Japan coast and the city port are a little farther, across the other side of the river.
