Introduction to Nara - City Centre
The beautiful historical city of Nara is located in the Kansai region of Japan. The city is famous for its ancient temples, shrines and historical sites. It was the capital of Japan from 710 AD to 784 AD. The heart of the city is an ideal place to stay as there are plenty of Nara City Centre hotels and excellent transport links to the city's main attractions. This city is a UNESCO World Heritage site, and its temples and ruins are known collectively as the Historic Monuments of Ancient Nara. The largest temple in the city centre is Todaiji Temple, which was constructed in 752 AD. Todaiji is the world's largest wooden building, and it houses Japan's largest bronze statue of the Buddha. It was also the head temple in Japan during the city's heyday. The temple grounds now make up most of the city's main park, which is a beautiful area to spend time in. Todaiji Temple is easily accessible by bus from the centre of the city.
