Introduction to Nagano - Hakuba
The skiing mecca of Japan is Hakuba, a resort town near Nagano in the northern Alps.

Its stunningly dramatic valley contains 10 different ski areas, boasting more than 200 runs for skiers and snowboarders to enjoy in the winter season.

There are dozens of nice resorts and lodges providing Hakuba hotels for the hordes of visitors who flock here all year round.

A number of natural hot springs are located in Hakuba to help ease the pains from a day in the mountains.

In summer, the ski resorts operate their lifts to help hikers reach alpine trails in minutes.

Popular spots for hikes and super views are Happo, Tsugaike and Goryu.

There are also three freshwater lakes around Hakuba, like Aoki-ko, which bans motors so it's quiet and ideal for swimming.

Most of the resorts in the area have restaurants and bars attached to them, but in town there are several good choices for a meal and a drink as well.
