Introduction to Kyoto - Kamigyo Ku
Kamigyo Ku is the central district of downtown Kyoto, one of Japan's premier historic and cultural destinations. Visitors will find several of the city's finest attractions here as well as the headquarters of legendary Japanese tea ceremony schools Urasenke and Omotesenke. Kyoto Imperial Palace is the home of the emperor when he is here. The grounds are open to the public, with interesting tours of the highlights each day. The city is also home to some of Japan's most beautiful Shinto shrines, and Kitano Tenmangu Shrine is no exception. Built in 947 AD, it simply oozes ancient Japanese ambiance and is a wonderful place to soak in the vibes. Also in Kamigyo Ku is Seimei Shrine, another ancient landmark of spirituality. This part of the city has all the usual amenities a traveller needs, such as great restaurants, traditional bars and lots of shopping. Kamigyo Ku hotels are the ideal way to stay right in the heart of Kyoto's magical central core, amid all the wonders it contains.Visit our Kyoto Travel Guide
