Introduction to Kyoto - Gojo
Gojo is an area close to the centre of Kyoto in Japan, and as visitors to the area will soon discover, there is a good selection of Gojo hotels here which make this a convenient place to stay with its excellent transport links to the city's main attractions. The historic city of Kyoto used to be the capital of Japan during the years 794 to 1868. The city has an abundance of temples, shrines and beautiful Japanese parks which have cherry trees that blossom in the spring. The Imperial Palace just to the north of Gojo was the home of Japan's imperial family until 1868, when the capital was moved to Tokyo. It is an impressive and beautiful building with classical Japanese architecture and many ornate gardens. Visitors can only see the palace on a guided tour, during which they will learn more about its history. The best way to get to the palace is via the subway; the journey takes 10 minutes from Kyoto's central station, to Gojo's south. Visit our Kyoto Travel Guide
