Introduction to Kurashiki - Achi
The most sacred shrine in the Japanese city of Kurashiki is called Achi, and this shrine, named after the city's patron deity, has stood near magnificent Mount Tsurugatayama since at least the 17th century. Most Achi hotels are situated immediately south of the shrine in the Bikan historic area, Kurashiki's old merchant quarter. The Achi shrine itself is actually a large complex surrounded by several smaller shrines, but the main staircase of stone is very steep. One unique thing about this shrine is the pair of rocks, one of which is considered female while the other is considered male, joined together by a rope. Tsurugatayama Park is located at the summit of the shrine, from which visitors can see dozens of Kurashiki's traditional 17th century wooden warehouses. These warehouses are known as kura and painted in white with lattice windows. Japan's first Western art museum, the Ohara Museum of Art, lies south of the shrine, along with most other Kurashiki museums.other spellings: achi otel, achi hotell, achi hote, a chi hotles, archi hotle, ache hotels
