Introduction to Kobe, Japan
Kobe is a port city located just south of Osaka. It lies right on Osaka Bay and is famous for the Arima Onsen, or Arima Hot Springs, and its expensive beef. The best view of the city can be had from the lattice-constructed Port Tower. The city is one of the only ports that was open to foreign vessels during Japan's years of seclusion and still shows a lot of foreign influence. The buildings in the Kitano area date back to this era and visitors can see a range of foreigner's residences that are built in European style. The German House, or Ijinkan, is probably the most striking. Another stunning piece of architecture is the Nunobiki Herb Garden, which can be reached via the Shin-Kobe Ropeway. The garden is 40 acres in size and boasts over 200 types of herbs. Kobe hotels offer a range of accommodation styles and prices, most of them located near Sannomiya Railway Station.Visit our Kobe Travel Guide
