Introduction to Hyogo - Amagasaki
Amagasaki, an industrial city of about 500,000 people in Japan's Hyogo prefecture, acts largely as a bedroom community for nearby Osaka and has great transport links to the city's attractions. Perhaps the most notable landmark of historical interest is Amagasaki Castle, off which little remains today. Remnants of the old castle, particularly the dense stone walls, can be found in several places around the railway station nearby. A far more impressive and complete, though much-restored, castle can be enjoyed at Osaka, which is about 20 minutes to the south. Hotels in Amagasaki are very close to the train station, so it is easy to get out and visit other parts of the region. The city of Takarazuka, about 30 minutes to the north, is home to a famous all-female revue show. The Choin-ji Temple is a pretty site, particularly when the cherry trees blossom in the spring, a few minutes north. It sits in some nice hills that are popular for walking and cycling.
