Introduction to Hokkaido - Noboribetsu
Noboribetsu is a city in Hokkaido in Japan. It lies within Shikotsu-Toya National Park. The city is the ideal place for visitors to the park to stay as there is a great selection of Noboribetsu hotels here. Shikotsu-Toya National Park has two beautiful lakes known as Shikotsu and Toya. There are also hot springs and caldera lakes, and it is possible to hike amid the park's spectacular scenery. The park also contains many active volcanoes. These include Mount Yotei, which has a perfectly formed shape, and Mount Tarumae, which billows volcanic smoke from its crater. Activities in the park include boating, fishing, climbing and wildlife watching. It is also possible to take a cruise on Shikotsu Lake. There are buses from Noboribetsu that can take visitors around the park, but they are infrequent. It is easier to explore the park with the use of a hire car, which can be organised in Noboribetsu.
