Introduction to Hakone - Ashinoyu
Hakone is a district if immense beauty in Japan's Kanagawa, west of Tokyo, with Mount Fuji providing a glorious backdrop (on clear days), some 30kms away. Hotels in Ashinoyu provide one of the greatest bits of natural scenery anywhere in the world, with the rock-and-forest strewn shores of Lake Ashi spread before you, and bits of traditional Japan, from temple gates to replicas of historic pirate ships, dotted all around. The location makes it easy to tour other parts of Fuji-Hakone National Park, which contains a range of volcanically active sites. The steaming, spitting rocks of the Great Boiling Valley Owakudani with its sulphurous springs, sits just eight kilometres to the north. An amazing cable car runs through the area from the lake and makes it easy to reach Owakudani. The bright red tori temple gate marks the location of the Hakone Jinja Shrine, which sits on the south shore of the lake. The local open air museum contains a mix of artwork and sculptures, including an exhibition of Picasso paintings and pottery, in pretty park lands.other spellings: ashinoyuhotels, ashinoyu otel, ashinuyu hotell, ashinoyo hotell, ahinoyu hotes
