Introduction to Gunma - Agatsuma
The Japanese village of Agatsuma lies in the district of the same name in Gunma Prefecture, having merged in 2006 with the smaller village of Azuma to form the new town of Higashiagatsuma. The town lies in the centre of Japan's main island, surrounded by high peaks including Mounts Iwabitsu, Sugamine and Yakushidake. Close by are two rivers, the Agatsuma and the Ishikame, as well as lovely Lake Haruna. The ruins of Iwabitsu Castle, former home of the local Daimyo ruler, are also located in Higashiagatsuma, not far from several traditional Agatsuma hotels. One of the most magical moments during any trip to Japan must be taking your first bath in a traditional onsen, a Japanese spa. Several onsen are located in the town, and the experience should not be missed. The town is charming, with ramen noodle shops and other Japanese dining delights, and the famous ancient town of Takayama is a short drive away, with its traditional wooden Kura storehouses and merchant homes. other spellings: agatsumahotels, agasuma otel, akatsuma hotell, agatsuma hote, agetsuma hotes
