Introduction to Gifu, Japan
The city centre of the capital of the region is where most hotels in Gifu are situated, within close proximity to the major attractions such as Gero Onsen, which is one of Japan’s most famous hot springs, and Hakusan National Park. The city is a base for skiers, hikers and hot spring bathers due to its proximity to the Japan Alps. Visit from mid-May to mid-October and you can witness the Ukai tradition, a 1,300-year-old night fishing event which can be viewed from a boat. Daytime sightseeing can take the form of a visit to Gifu Castle, which offers views over the city from its location atop Mt Kinka (329m) and a small on-site museum of weaponry. For a grounding in local history, the City Museum of History offers exhibitions covering the castle among other local landmarks. Additionally, there is an art museum featuring work by well-known Japanese artists.other spellings: gifuhotels, gifu otel, gifu hotell, gifu hote, gifu hotes
