Lying to the east of Tokyo, Chiba is the largest city in the prefecture of the same name. Some people describe this as a suburb of Tokyo but it is a city in its own right. Being so close to the country’s capital makes Chiba easy to overlook as an attractive tourist destination. However, there are a few sights to see and the hotels in Chiba are generally more competitively priced than those of its neighbour. The city has its own airport and transfers from there to the centre of the city will place you close to the more desirable Chiba hotels. It is quite easy to get around the city and most hotels in Chiba will be close to the Chiba Urban Monorail system which is by far the most efficient way to see the attractions. These include Chiba Castle and the impressive Makuhari Techno Garden shopping and dining complex.
