Introduction to Awaji, Japan
For many, the island of Awaji is just one hop on the road crossing between Shikoku to the south and Japan's main island of Honshu. The biggest attraction is Akashi-Kaikyo Bridge, the world's longest suspension bridge, linking the island to the city of Kobe. A curious but interesting and perhaps frightening exhibition can be seen at Nojima Fault Preservation Museum, where an earthquake simulator provides the chance to experience a massive quake in safety. The Naruto Strait separating the island from Shikoku is famous for its tidal whirlpools. Hotels in Awaji are all relatively close to key attractions as well as sights in adjoining areas. The island provides cheap rentals of electric bikes, offering an excellent way to explore. A puppet museum in the town of Mihara explores an important aspect of local culture. At the right times of year, the Awaji Hana Sajiki flower galleries are among the most spectacular parts of the island. The Awaji Yumebutai conference centre and the Honpukuji water temple both feature amazing designs by architect Tadao Ando. Roads and ferries are the only ways to the island. Unless you can read Japanese, driving is not advised, so buses from Kobe are your best bet.other spellings: awaje otel, avaji hotell, aweji hote, avaji hotels, awaji hotle, awagi hotes
