Introduction to Negril - Bloody Bay
Bloody Bay is considered one of the most scenic beaches in Negril, a well-visited Jamaican beach town. It is located north of Long Bay and around six miles from what could be considered the centre of town. As such, it is considered a more peaceful and relaxing alternative to the centre and is consequently popular with couples and families. The origin of the bay's name is disputed, with some believing it was named after pirate battles, while others say that whales were once killed here. Most of the bay's beach is open to the public, with one or two Bloody Bay hotels maintaining private sections of beach. Bloody Bay's beachfront barbecues are well-attended and highly regarded for their excellent fish and lobster. These barbecues are run by locals, who often enjoy a game of cricket after dinner. During the day, many visitors join one of the resort's snorkelling trips, while others are content to enjoy a leisurely swim in the Caribbean. Most travellers get here by flying to Montego Bay's Sangster International Airport.
