Venice Travel Guide - Eating Out
There are plenty of top class restaurants with prices to match, but there is also good value to be found in many of the homely traditional restaurants. Whichever option you choose, dining out in Venice is usually a memorable experience.
A traditional local meal in Venice follows a recognisable pattern of courses, usually starting with a selection of antipasti consisting of seafood and meats such as beef, ham and salami, often also including some vegetables. Traditionally, there follows a small rice, pasta or soup dish before you even reach the main course.
If you still have room for more, there are some delicious sweet desserts to be sampled, or if you prefer, fruit or cheese. The final act is coffee and for locals this generally means a small ultra strong shot of espresso, a fine way to end a good eating experience.
You won’t be surprised to find that pizza is a popular choice in Venice and there are a number of real pizzerias here, with delicious crusty bases and a superb array of toppings. There are also plenty of places for you to grab a slice on the go, as well as many opportunities to sample the huge range of pasta dishes, with a vast variety both in terms of sauces and types of pasta to be sampled.
