Rome Travel Guide
The summer is a good time to be in Rome as the Estate Romana festival grips the city with al fresco concerts, discos and bars celebrating all over the city. The great news it that most of these outdoor parties are free, and the Via di Monte Testaccio is said to be the best place to head.
Rome’s nightlife is about much more than bars and clubs, both locals and tourists often head to some of the cities beautiful Piazzas and meet up with friends. Piazza della Rotonda, by the Pantheon, is popular and is very atmospheric when lit up at night. Other areas worth checking include Piazza del Popolo and Via Veneto. There are plenty of typical cafes in these areas, and you might also find some live guitar music or an Italian tenor to keep you entertained.
During the summer a great experience is to go to the ancient Baths of Caracalla and see an opera, it was here that the Three Tenors famously performed at the conclusion of the 1990 world cup; attendance at these events is limited to 2,000 spectators.
The All Saints Church (Chiesa Anglicana) also holds operas and concerts organised by the Italian Opera Academy. For international pop, there are often major concerts at Stadio Flaminio or Foro Italico.
