Rome Travel Guide - Introduction

It’s no surprise to find there are some excellent museums and galleries dominated by the history of the Roman Empire and powerful presence of the Vatican. The Vatican Museums are rated by many as being some of the world’s best and attract millions of visitors each year.
The magnificent Sistine Chapel is probably the biggest draw but there are also some other impressive works of art. For a change of tack, the Criminology Museum has a sinister but interesting feel to it.
Food lovers will be in their element in Rome. While Italian food is well known and popular throughout the world, there is nothing quite like sitting in a really traditional Italian trattoria enjoying some great home cooked food and fine wines. Meal times play an important role in Roman culture; involve plenty of food and many hours of lively conversation.
Rome has a good nightlife scene, although things tend to go out of fashion here pretty quickly. Places that are in one month are out the next, so keep you eye on local listings and if in doubt on where to go, ask a local.
Transport to the city is straightforward, Leonardo da Vinci International Airport is the biggest in the country and there are good road and rail links both within Italy and further a field.
