Football: the local football teams are supported fervently by locals, especially the Serie A ‘Fiorentina’ side. If you’d like to take in a match you can head to Artemio Franchi Stadium in Viale Manfredo Fanti on alternate Sundays. Florence has a second football team, Rondinella Impruneta, which doesn’t get quite as much attention.
Golf and tennis: if you’d like to play on a quality golf course while you’re visiting the area, there are two just outside Florence: the Golf Club Montelupo at Fattoria di Fibbiana is an 8-hole course; and the Golf Club Ugolino on via Chiantigiana features an 18-hole course.
Fishing and rowing: the Societa Canottieri Firenze has a clubhouse and landing stage near the Ponte Vecchio Bridge and is a good place to go for anyone interested in rowing. Another option is the Canottieri Firenze Comunali at Lungarno Ferrucci, for rowing on the Arno river.
If you’re interested in fishing, you’ll need an annual permit for fishing anywhere in Tuscany and that includes the Arno River. Permits are inexpensive, however, and readily available from the Federazione Italiana della Pesca Sportiva.
