Introduction to Venice - Castello Ovest
Visitors have been attracted to the power, wealth and importance of Venice for many centuries. Today it continues to be among the leading destinations in global tourism, thanks to the unique design of the city as well as the hundreds of years of art, culture and history that can be enjoyed in Venice Castello Ovest. Vehicular traffic is virtually non-existent here, unless one includes the many forms of marine transport, especially the gondolas for which Venice is internationally famous. Hotels in Castello Ovest provide a great combination of practicality and amenities. Much of the city can be enjoyed on foot from this part of the city, with the main railway station only about 20 minutes’ walk to the west. The Piazza San Marco, an UNESCO World Heritage site, is virtually next door, so visitors can see the great square itself as well as the Doge’s Palace, St Mark’s Basilica and its beautiful bell tower with little effort. The great Le Fenice Theatre and the Church of San Fentin are a few minutes farther to the west.
