Introduction to Ugento, Italy
Situated right on the end of Italy's heel, the town of Ugento contains a population of about 12,000 people. The settlement relies heavily upon agriculture, not to mention fishing and tourism, for its economic survival. There is a small harbour located within the town, and visitors will find plenty of restaurants and cafe s along the streets, too. The commune sits upon the SP350 highway and is within a few kilometres of several towns, including Allise, Taurisano, and Acquarica del Capo. While in the town, visitors have a plethora of Ugento hotels to choose from. Olive farms and wineries are in abundance in the surrounding areas of the town, so many visitors take time out of their holiday to enjoy the agricultural side of things in Ugento. In addition, there are several magnificent old structures in the town centre, including the large and stunning Ugento Cathedral. Another site to witness is the Cripta del Crocifisso, which has stood here since the early 14th century.
