Standing as one of the eight Aeolian Islands, a group of volcanic islands off the coast of Sicily, the island of Stromboli is one of the most active and most beautiful in the world. Only about 800 people permanently reside on the island, but it receives a fair amount of tourists each year. Most Stromboli Island hotels are found in the northeastern region of the island, as this is where the villages and towns are located. The rest of the island is taken up by the active volcano aside from one community in the southwest. Tours of the island are the most important tourist attraction, with many including a climb up the volcano. The villages of the island contain shopping areas and numerous restaurants. There is also a black sand lava beach that is worth visiting. In addition, snorkelling is available off the coast of the island. Getting here is only possible by boat from the mainland or Sicily.
