Introduction to South Sardinia - Catiadas
The inland municipality of Castiadas is seeing increasing numbers of tourists thanks to its proximity to the coast and the Sardinian capital, Cagliari. Most visitors choose to stay in this southerly part of the island for the beaches, with several within easy driving distance of the town. Castiadas was at one time home to a criminal agricultural colony. Closed in the 1950s, the site of this colony has today been converted into an interesting museum. Catiadas hotels are at their busiest during June's last weekend. Cagliari's patron saint, St John the Baptist, is celebrated at this time. Cagliari sits 35kms to the west, and is the main gateway to the island by ferry or air. The capital offers a fabulous eight-kilometre stretch of sandy shoreline, but many visitors prefer the quiet, authentically Sardinian flavour of Castiadas beaches, which see fewer tourists. other spellings: catiadashotels, catidas otel, hotellin catadas, hote catiedas, catiades hotle
