Introduction to Siracusa - Outskirts
The Sicilian town of Siracusa is an official UNESCO World Heritage site and boasts some of the richest culture and history anywhere in Italy. This was the hometown of one of the world's greatest minds, Archimedes, and still holds fascinating ruins from its Greek and Roman heritage. Unlike many of Italy's biggest tourist destinations, the town and its action isn't confined to the city centre; in fact, some of the best Siracusa hotels and several of the area's most popular sights are situated on the outskirts. Among them are the Roman Amphitheatre ruins where visitors can catch a glimpse of the Roman Imperial age, as well as the Orecchio di Dionisio, also known as the Ear of Dionysius, a massive man-made cave carved more than 150 feet into a limestone hillside. Also nearby is the Tomb of Archimedes, a Roman structure boasting a pair of Doric columns, as well as the 17th century Basilica of St John the Evangelist, which features a chilling maze of passages and tunnels referred to as the Catacombs of San Giovanni.other spellings: siracusa hotle, siracusa hotell, hotelsiracusa, siracusar hote, siracusahotels
