Introduction to Scalea, Italy
The charming little town of Scalea lies in the Calabria region in southern Italy. Scalea has a lovely beach, and its hilltop Old Town is well preserved with beautiful old buildings. The beach features a number of caves and cliffs as well as a long stretch of sand. This is an excellent place for swimming, sunbathing and water sports. The Old Town is surrounded by its original wall, and the most important building is the Palace of the Spinelli Princes, constructed in the 13th century. The 12th century Normanno Palace is also worth visiting. There are a whole host of excellent Scalea hotels in the town which are located close the beach, at the modern marina and in the Old Town. The Old Town has many restaurants that serve traditional Italian dishes, including pizza and pasta. Spaghetti agio is a popular and delicious dish from south Italy. There are also numerous fantastic bars in the old quarter.
