Introduction to Santa Maria di Leuca, Italy
The town of Santa Maria di Leuca is a southern Italian commune that it is often referred to as simply Leuca. It is found in the southern province of Lecce, along the coastline of the Adriatic Sea, and is home to several thousand people. The town's panoramic port is a beautiful place for tourists to explore, and has become one of the central features for the town. Santa Maria di Leuca hotels are located close to the port area, which is only a short walk from the main sites in town. From the port, visitors can take a stone staircase up to the primary attraction in the settlement, the lighthouse. This structure is only about 50 metres in height, but because it stands on top of the town's hill, it is more than 100 metres above sea level. Lying next to the lighthouse is the beautiful basilica of Finibus Terrae, which means 'end of the land'.
