Located about 80kms to the southwest of Venice, and about 40kms to the southeast of the beautiful Franciscan town of Padua, the commune of Rovigo is a must-visit destination in the northeastern region of Italy. The easiest way to get to the town is by travelling via rail, as the train lines that venture into the township connect to the large city of Venice. Rovigo hotels are generally just a short distance from the historical and religious attractions of the town. The castle ruins are one of the most spectacular landmarks in the town, and the Cathedral of Rovigo, which was constructed in the 11th century, is another site well worth visiting. La Rotonda Church, otherwise known as the Madonna del Soccorso Church, is yet another religious structure found in the town. It was erected around the year 1600 and boasts a massive range of interior wall paintings by famous historical artists including the Italian painters of Alessandro Varotari and Francesco Maffei.
